A digital fingerprint is a cast of a user’s profile:


Why is there so much interest from large companies in anonymized personal data? What does the user want, and what will help their interaction with the company? A workflow technology such as digital fingerprinting from a browser makes this a lot easier. After all, recently announced technologies like Google FloC, for example, have not yet found widespread support.






Once upon a time, it was the case that online stores and websites were content with minimal information. Often all they needed was a fictitious nickname and their own created password. This was done to create a user profile.


Then they began to be interested in the e-mail address, and later, in the phone number. Of course, all this was done for the good of the user, to recover the lost password and access to the profile.


The next stage of development was SMS confirmation of registration. And in internet-shops – not only the number of the bank card became necessary. That is – and all its other details. This and its expiration date, name and even the code on the back side…


That is the store sites began to bind, again for the benefit of the user, cards to their systems. Which, however, and understandably in the case of making steady purchases in them. That is, the integration of sites with payment services has become the norm.


In fact:


If a store or other company’s site, where the user regularly pays, ties up a card with all reasonable precautions, that’s a boon, of course.


But what about the actions of the users themselves? Starting from reading the rules of registration on the site (not through the button “Accept the terms”) … Almost no one reads them! And what about the installation of dozens of plug-ins, which, of course, simplify life and nullify the protection?


Fifefox in early 2020 delighted its users with a digital fingerprint lock feature. And that was important, because at the time it had a huge number of different plugins.


But unfortunately, technology is also not standing still …


Each plugin installed in the browser, in fact – a separate software package. It lives by its own rules, and the fact that it is in the browser indicates only the integration of a service. This is not a browser upgrade!


Because of such simple things, threats like phishing and downloading with installation of game components are just nothing.


A lot of questions like “how to remove my bugs from the Internet” are broken by installed plug-ins and anti-viruses. Of course, they need access to the content of the pages you’re viewing. Of course – to improve the service provided…



Only to develop the service and satisfy the appetites of the founders or shareholders in the case of a public company need your data. Only they can give them other data – in the case of sharing it with other services or for their own analytics.




What has now been announced is actually a long-established model – the digital fingerprint. That is, even users of default anonymous browsers like Tor, for example, can be easily de-anonymized.




How? And the point is that by using specific handlers built into interacting programs, a lot can be learned.


That is: when you assign an ID, you get a list of programs on your computer, the sites you visit… In other words, the script can check the browser status once every few minutes and report back to the owner.


Bottom line:


De-anonymizing a user through a digital fingerprint at this point is a matter of time. When processing an array of data and profile – you can install almost anyone.
