It will also feature other new features, such as inserting information from messages with SMS passwords into browser web forms and a new animation engine.

Today, Google has released its Chrome version 84-of course, with automatic updates from previous versions.

There were almost no external changes – almost all of them relate to the browser’s internal software (API, developer tools).

Chrome 84 features updated APIs: the web OTR API and the AI animation management system, and some experimental features (with the API: Wake blocking, idle detection, and content indexing.

Also, this version is the first release of Chrome that blocks pop-up notifications on websites that abuse this feature.

Summarily:

Web-OTP API-actually created by Apple, but Google has agreed to support this feature, with which mobile web browsers can detect incoming SMS with one-time passwords (OTP) sent for two-factor authentication (2FA): The new API allows Chrome to find and send authentication SMS messages in a single touch to the desired form (this is designed both to standardize OTP SMS codes and to ensure the security of users from OTP phishing attacks).

WEB ANIMATION API

In fact, it is an updated version of The JavaScript Suite for developers to use more complete control of animation algorithms in the browser.

API WAKE THE SCREEN

It has not yet been decided whether this experimental feature will remain in future versions of Chrome. The Screen Wake Lock API prevents smartphones (or tablets) from darkening or locking the screen when the browser should continue working. You will also need a site request and explicit user confirmation to use this feature.

IDLE DETECTION API

Designed exclusively for developers (new Idle Detection API). This new developer tool allows website owners and Chrome app developers to detect user inactivity (more precisely, the lack of interaction directly with the browser) to reduce processor load and overall save resources and power.

CONTENT INDEXING API

Also intended for developers, this feature is for creating a better offline viewing mode.

NO SPAM NOTIFICATIONS

This is the first version of Chrome in which, based on the site’s reputation, pop – UPS are hidden by default (of course, the user can find them in the same place if they want-in the address bar).

CHROME REMOVES SUPPORT FOR TLS 1.0 AND TLS 1.1

Websites that load using these ciphers will be blocked by default with an error message.

BLOCKING DOWNLOADS OF FILES PLACED ON HTTP URLS

You will also see warnings for files uploaded via HTTP from HTTPS sites.

This” mixed content ” is considered dangerous by Google, since users may not know that the actual download is going through insecure HTTP.
